What you can expect
How we work with clients
Cost uncertainty is one of the main reasons people delay getting help with a CRA matter. Our engagement model is built to remove it.
- 24-Hour Guarantee — We begin work on your case within 24 hours of retainer.
- Free Consultation — Most cases qualify for a free, no-obligation consultation with an experienced tax lawyer.
- Transparent Fees — Most matters are quoted on a fixed-fee basis after we understand scope so you know the cost up front.
Step by step
From first call to resolution
Free consultation
Most matters qualify for a free, no-obligation consultation with an experienced tax lawyer. We listen to the facts, explain your options, and tell you honestly whether you need us.
Fixed-fee quote
Once we understand the scope, most matters are quoted on a fixed-fee basis — so you know the cost before you commit. Where a matter is genuinely open-ended, we explain why and how we bill instead.
Work begins within 24 hours
When you retain us, we begin work on your file within 24 hours. CRA deadlines are unforgiving; we move quickly to protect your position.
Senior involvement throughout
A tax lawyer is responsible for your file from start to finish. You are not handed off to junior staff for the substantive work on your matter.
Why fixed fees
Predictable cost on most matters
For most defined matters — a Notice of Objection, a voluntary disclosure, an audit response, a corporate reorganization — we can scope the work and quote a fixed fee once we understand the facts. A fixed fee means you can decide whether to proceed with the full cost in front of you, rather than watching an hourly meter run.
Some matters genuinely cannot be fixed-fee at the outset — a Tax Court appeal that may or may not settle, or a file whose scope depends on what the CRA does next. In those cases we tell you so up front, explain the variables, and agree on how we will bill before any work begins.
Either way, the goal is the same: no surprises. You should always understand what you are paying for and why.
Before you decide
Do your due diligence
Choosing who handles a dispute with the CRA is an important decision. We encourage prospective clients to ask hard questions of any firm they consider — including ours. Our guide to questions to ask before hiring a Canadian tax lawyer walks through what to look for, and the FAQ answers the questions we hear most often.
