The stage of a hearing where a party questions a witness they have called in order to bring out that witness's evidence. Questions are meant to be open and non-leading — for example, "What happened next?" rather than questions that suggest the answer. For a self-represented taxpayer this is how they present their own testimony and the evidence of any witnesses they bring, before the other side cross-examines.
